Why do we say
"Serious training for the Serious Student"?
We are not a business or a diploma mill. If you are interested in how
quickly you can achieve a black belt, you should seek training elsewhere.
We are a club for those who wish to learn a traditional style of karate
and who realize such learning develops over time.
People do not automatically pass every test, and it is not unusual to
spend longer periods of time compared to other styles to reach a
particular level of competence. One earns their rank and does not buy it.
There is just simple, hard work!
Our training entails strength conditioning, flexibility training,
self-defense, traditional empty hand and weapons katas
(forms), developing a personal philosophy related to karate and one's
self, and kumite (sparring). Our sparring
includes varying degrees of controlled contact, depending upon one's
ability and rank. It is my belief that we cannot be expected to defend
ourselves unless we actually have to block a technique, which was meant
to hit us. I think anything less only creates an illusion that we can
defend ourselves.
The only pre-requisite to study is a desire to learn! No special physical
abilities are required. Families with children five and up are encouraged
to participate.
We stress modesty, courtesy, interity, self-control, perseverance, an indomitable
spirit, discipline and patience.
